1. How do I schedule imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, etc.)?
For routine non-emergent imaging, please call Centralized Scheduling at (540) 741-2000. You can also schedule exams with locations and times directly from your office through an online internet service at scheduling.com (please contact Dawn Bartmess at Mary Washington Hospital for additional details. She can be reached at (540) 741-2134 or by email at dawn.bartmess@medicorp.org). All locations handle routine x-rays on a walk-in basis with a prescription.
Nuclear medicine studies are to be scheduled directly with the Nuclear medicine department at
(540) 741- 1571.
PET-CT studies are to be scheduled by contacting the PET center directly at (540) 741-4PET.
Emergent same day imaging or special needs cases can be scheduled directly through Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg by dialing their main number (540-741-7026). A receptionist will connect you with an imaging supervisor. Radiologists are also available for protocol advice and prioritizing studies by contacting radiology reception at (540) 741-1570.
2. How do I schedule
an interventional radiology consultation or procedure?
All interventional radiology procedures and outpatient consultations are to be scheduled by phone through the VIVA (Virginia Interventional Vascular Associates) office at 540-654-9118.
If there is an emergent outpatient case (IVC filter, cold extremity, pneumothorax, etc.), the most efficient route to reach our interventional radiologists is through the IR department directly at 540-741-4377.

If there are any additional questions, contact the department where the exam is to be performed. For a list of locations and contact numbers, Click Here.
4. How can I reach a radiologist for a consultation, question, or advice?
Feel free to call radiology reception at (540) 741-1570 to be connected with an available radiologist. If there is a specific exam to discuss, having the patient's hospital MR number handy will permit us to quickly access all of the relevant exams on our iSite PACS system.
During routine business hours (8am - 5 pm), feel free to drop by any of our imaging centers if you want to review exams with one of us in person. The PACS system allows us to review images performed at any location with the exception of mammograms that must be retrieved/reviewed at the Imaging Center for Women.
5. My patient is allergic to contrast. Are there any premedication guidelines you suggest?
Inquiring about contrast allergies in advance is crucial to both patient safety and convenience. Patients can understandably become irritable if they are rescheduled for lack of premedication. Our standard protocol for IV contrast allergy premedication is oral prednisone 50mg (13, 7, 1 hours prior to injection) and a single dose of benadryl 50mg (1 hours prior to scanning). The patient must have a ride home if receiving benadryl.
If there are any indications that the patient may be prone to allergic reactions, we prefer to have them scheduled at Mary Washington Hospital's radiology department. This allows the highest level of supervision and medical support for any allergic reaction.
Please make a note on the patient's order or prescription with the words 'stat' or 'wet reading.' The scheduling.com portal also has an option for annotating this.
Please list a contact number where we can reach you with consideration for 'after hours' contact information. If you leave a fax number, we will often fax a preliminary report or final document. If there are critical results to convey, we prefer having a direct phone number to the physician. If your office is closed, we will attempt to go through any available answering service. If we are unable to reach the referring physician and results are critical (i.e. pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombus, etc.), the patient will be transferred to the Mary Washington Hospital Emergency Department.
7. Where are your imaging centers and what are the phone/fax numbers?
A listing of imaging centers with phone and fax numbers can be found HERE. There are links available on this page to map the locations for driving directions.
8. How can I look at radiology studies and schedule them from my office?
The iSite PACS system can be accessed directly through your web-browser with a broadband internet connection and access through a secured VPN network connection. For more information, please email IT support at isite@medicorp.org.
Scheduling can also be performed through an online scheduling portal offered by Medicorp. To find out more about this service, please contact Dawn Bartmess at Mary Washington Hospital. She can be reached at (540) 741-2134 or by email at dawn.bartmess@medicorp.org.
Previous exams may be available from other institutions outside of the Medicorp system. Comparison with these studies is often vital to an interpretation. Expensive workup of a pulmonary nodule or spine fracture may be obviated by an old film present at an outside location. Please ask the patient to bring any outside exams (on film or CD-ROM) and reports with them to their imaging appointment. The radiologist will compare the exams in a timely manner and return the study directly to the patient.
If an outside exam becomes available after a report has been generated, an addendum can be made in the context of any new information
Feel free to contact us by phone or email (webmaster@rafimaging.com) regarding any inquiries to the website or our practice which may enhance the safety and care of your patients.
